A2 Hosting vs. ScalaCube 2021

very clearly flawed (or nonexistent? They’re busy trying to take down my reviews rather than fix their problems) insofar as account recovery and their support staff, to my direct experience, is very susceptible to phishing. I will not return to or recommend A2 in the future. Very disappointing staff. This is in addition to receiving poor website hosting help in the past.

re hands down incredible. I originally purchased the VPS 1.5G for my area (Eastern US) for 3 people to play vanilla MC. Server took 24 hours to setup after I purchased which was a bummer because spinning up a tiny Ubuntu VM should take seconds, but after the 24 hour wait the server was up. Installed vanilla MC and started playing and after a few minutes the server crashed. Ok restarted VM and then saw in the notes well for vanilla no matter what you need to have the 3.5G plan which is $20 more a month. My friends and I agreed let's just keep the server for a month and upgrade it to the 3.5G since since that's a 4GB / 2 vCPU machine and it should work great on a MC vanilla single instance. In that time we found that all of the standard features that other companies provide free had a charge to them that's not bundled in the price of the service and quickly realized this might be problematic. This was suspect so I tried to cancel, well there are no refunds after I hit cancel.
We then tried to play with the newly specced machine and started optimizing the Minecraft world more and more by modifying the scripts, using Spigot, then PaperMC instead of Vanilla, using plugins to handle chunking and then modifying Java, etc. This had no resource packs, nothing vanilla as possible. In the end we had it working to some extent but the CPU was spiked at 0 constantly and memory was still being used heavily even though we had the worlds turned off. When anyone would travel 30 feet away from the group of 2 or 3 people the server would say it's behind by thousands of ticks and my friends would say that they couldn't hit blocks anymore or do much of anything, but we trogged along.
Finally we said cool let's try some of the other features like building a site for free (as advertised) we loaded it and the site did nothing, couldn't load it, it supposedly build the Wordpress site and forum, maybe... but it didn't do anything when you tried to launch it. Tried to launch PhpMyAdmin that didn't launch. Tried to login to MySQL that didn't launch. Tried Spigot plugins page that wouldn't launch. In the end I had to reinstall the OS for the server since I attempted to repair MySQL on their Control Panel as they offer the option and it just hung for over 30 to 40 minutes and the server was inaccessible. So I had to start all over and reinstall the OS which now takes another 24 hours. I submitted a support ticket, but they only have weekday hours so it's just a waiting game.
Such a terrible experience with this service.
